First Friday Success Stories: Synergy Accounting Services, LLC

This is an ongoing installment of First Friday Success Stories. On the first Friday of every month, we will feature an area business that has worked with the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) counselor housed at the AAEDC office in Annapolis. The SBDC counselor is on hand to assist local entrepreneurs and small to mid-size businesses.

Ms. LaKia Bourne found out about the SBDC through the Growth Accelerator course they offer. This course emphasizes business owners to create systemized plans to earn more with effective processes. After her completion of the course, she then began meeting with her local SBDC consultant, Mrs. Candace Pruett on a regular basis.

When Ms. Bourne first started coming to the SBDC, she was also working another full-time job while growing her current business. The consultant, Candace Pruett worked with Ms. Bourne to find interns to work with her to grow her business and to expand her online social media presence. Candace went over different marketing and networking events where Ms. Bourne could effectively market her services towards her target customer – the healthcare industry. Ms. Bourne is now an active member of her local chamber of commerce.

Ms. Bourne has been able to leave her job to pursue her own business full time. She has hired a part time assistant to help keep up with the daily demands.  She continues to meet with her SBDC consultant on a regular basis as she continues to grow her business. Ms. Bourne mentioned, “I love working with Candace. She has helped me with my business from Social Media, IT support and Admin Assistant support. Her resources with the community has helped me connect with other associates I wouldn’t have even considered. I enjoy working with her.”
