Anne Arundel County Public Schools offers a strong educational foundation to develop the next generation of technology skilled professionals. Apprenticeships and Internships programs support businesses.

The Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) system offers a strong educational foundation that aims to support the county’s ever expanding technology industry.

AACPS boasts 18 National Blue Ribbon Schools and 21 Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence. Its Office of College and Career Readiness (CCR) offers a variety of top-notch programs to develop the next generation of technology skilled professionals including but not limited to:

  • Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Magnet Programs: Offered at two high schools, North County and South River High Schools, and three middle schools, Old Mill Middle School South and Lindale and Central Middle Schools.
  • BioMedical Allied Health Program (BMAH): The BMAH program is a specialized area of study within the STEM disciplines and is offered at Glen Burnie High School. Highly motivated and academically eligible students are invited to study and explore career opportunities across the spectrum of healthcare professions. In conjunction with a variety of coursework options, a featured part of the healthcare-bound student’s education is interaction with medical/allied health professionals in a job shadow or internship setting where mentoring and simulated practice with technology relevant to a targeted healthcare area is central to the experience.
  • International Baccalaureate Programme (IB): Offers student-centered inquiry, critical thinking and effective communication.  IB challenges students to consider their role in both global and local communities.  It is offered at Annapolis, Old Mill and Meade High Schools as well as at three accompanying middle schools.
  • Centers of Applied Technology (CAT-North and South): Offers students technical preparation and numerous certifications to become competitive in the college and career market.
  • Signature Programs / Signature Home (aacps.org): Each Signature program has a defined AACC pathway aligned to CCR where students can earn up to and beyond 18 college credits prior to graduation. Some of these programs are even aligned to industry certifications.” Examples include “Homeland Security” at Meade High School, “Information Management” at Chesapeake High School and “Change Engineering” at Annapolis High School.

AACPS Work Based Learning Programs: Apprenticeships and Internships – If your business is interested in building its future workforce, in collaboration with the public school system, then AACPS may have some work-based learning programs that align with that vision. Through various apprenticeship and internship programs, AACPS can help you create a program that provides students an opportunity to work with your company for 135-450 hours. They will also support the growth of this employee by providing instruction related to the work they are doing for you.  AACPS simplifies the process through Admintern, an online web portal for posting, selecting, and managing interns/apprentices. This user-friendly platform facilitates seamless connections between businesses and students.

Maryland Technology Internship Program (MTIP)
Administered by UMBC and funded by the State of Maryland, MTIP helps Maryland retain top talent by offering financial assistance to technology-based businesses, as well as state and local agencies, to hire more interns.
