Getting a jump-start on Economic Development Week – an initiative of  the Maryland Economic Development Association designed to increase understanding of economic development’s contribution to Maryland’s business climate, job retention and growth, tax base, and overall quality of life – AAEDC President and CEO Ben Birge sat down with host Rita Rich to discuss all-things economic development in Anne Arundel County.

Among many things, Birge discussed:

• Who AAEDC is and what it does.
• How AAEDC pivoted, and continues to pivot, in order to help get money into the hands of small businesses affected not only by COVID-19 but also, more recently, by Tropical Storm Ida.
• The great success of AAEDC’s Inclusive Ventures Program (IVP) – an initiative that:
  • launched in January 2021 to help small businesses and minority-, woman-, and Veteran-owned businesses in Anne Arundel County grow by offering a robust menu of resources including education, access to capital, and mentorship.
  • graduated its first class of ten business owners in April 2021.
  • will graduate its second class, of eleven business owners, on Wednesday, October 27, 2021.
