Annapolis, Maryland (February 4, 2025) – The Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation (AAEDC) has launched its first Annual New & Expanding Businesses List Report, offering a detailed summary of the county’s commercial real estate activity in 2024. AAEDC’s research efforts draw on multiple sources, including social media, news coverage, on-the-ground research, and trader’s license applications, to provide insights into local business activity. While not a comprehensive directory of all businesses, the Report serves as a powerful tool for understanding key trends and identifying opportunities in Anne Arundel County.
In 2024, AAEDC identified 389 business locations across the county, including 290 brand-new businesses and/or additional establishments, 67 that expanded or relocated, and 32 under new ownership. This is the highest number of business locations identified by AAEDC, with previous years’ Annual New & Expanding Businesses Lists including 369 (2023), 342 (2022), and 150 (2021).
The Report shows that the food and beverage sector experienced the most significant growth, with 114 business locations identified, followed by health and wellness services (54) and arts, entertainment, and recreation (40). Geographically, the greatest number of business locations were identified in County Council District 6 (163), followed by County Council District 1 (48) and County Council District 7 (47).
“The New & Expanding Businesses List has long been a vital resource for understanding economic activity in Anne Arundel County, and this annual report takes that one step further by offering an overview of and insights into commercial real estate activity in 2024,” said Jonathan Boniface, Director of Research and Program Development. “This report showcases the strength and resilience of our business community, and we are proud to continue providing research and resources that support both business owners and policymakers in the years to come.”
This Report is part of the AAEDC Research Library, a regularly updated hub for data and insights into the county’s economy and business climate. Business owners and professionals are encouraged to download the Report and explore additional resources in the library to find additional data that can help inform strategic decisions.
