First Friday Success Story: Blo Blow Dry Bar

This is an ongoing installment of First Friday Success Stories. On the first Friday of every month, we will feature an area business that has worked with the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) counselor housed at the AAEDC office in Annapolis. The SBDC counselor is on hand to assist local entrepreneurs and small to mid-size businesses.

Sharmeen Ferrell is the owner/multi-unit franchise partner of Blo Blow Dry Bar opening in the Festival at Riva in Annapolis this month. At Blo, you’re not cheating on your hairdresser. Blo Blow Dry Bar is North America’s original blow dry bar – no cuts, no color: just wash, blo, and go! There are seven signature styles on the Blo Hair menu that include the razor-straight “Executive Sweet” to the runway-inspired “Pillow Talk”. Blo also offers makeup services and bar parties. Blo is a convenient express one-stop-beauty shop!

Sharmeen began to work with the SBDC and her consultant, Candace Pruett, during the planning stages of hiring and marketing for her business. The SBDC was able to connect Blo with Anne Arundel County Workforce Development and the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation’s Workforce Training Grant. Sharmeen will continue to work with the SBDC to assist with marketing efforts as the business opens to the public this month.

Blo Blow Dry Bar Annapolis is opening to the public on Friday April 20th. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Thursday April 19th with the local community including the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation and Small Business Development Center.
