Lisa Ruth has been working at Bruster’s Ice Cream in Annapolis as the manger since 2015. Lisa had been working with the business to increase marketing exposure and clientele. She was able to expand the business with purchase of Bruster’s Ice Cream truck that is typically parked at the Red, Hot & Blue in Annapolis. She had the opportunity to purchase the franchise location in November 2017. She was referred to the Small Business Development Center by Stephen Primosch, the VOLT Fund Manager at the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation.
Lisa Ruth was able to meet with SBDC Business Consultant, Candace Pruett. During the one-on-one consulting sessions, the purchase agreement and lease agreement were reviewed, and suggestions were made to improve. Candace assisted Lisa with the VOLT application process for funding to purchase the business. Candace also walked through the steps of how to register her new business LLC with the State of Maryland and obtaining the business’s EIN number, tax ID, and trader’s license. Candace also mentioned the importance of creating their business “BAIL” team (banker, accountant, insurance, and legal team.) Lisa mentioned, “Candace was very polite and helpful, she really went out of her way to welcome us and was very willing to listen and help us with all of our needs. The SBDC is a great resource for any new business!”
Lisa Ruth is now the owner of Bruster’s Ice Cream in Annapolis where they are scooping up different flavors each month and continuing to grow the business. Stop by for a treat with summer hours expanded until 10pm every night!
