First Friday Success Story: Textures

This is an ongoing installment of First Friday Success Stories. On the first Friday of every month, we will feature an area business that has worked with the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) counselor housed at the AAEDC office in Annapolis. The SBDC counselor is on hand to assist local entrepreneurs and small to mid-size businesses.

Passion is something that licensed cosmetologist, Montoya Silver couldn’t avoid. With zeal and passion for the creativity of hair maintenance and styling, Montoya Silver has settled into her own which includes helping women find freedom and confidence in their ability to look and feel good when they walk out of her multicultural salon, Textures. Textures was founded in 2015 by owner Montoya Silver. Textures has recently expanded into a new location at 1215 Annapolis Road #108, Odenton, MD.

Textures first started working with SBDC in April 2017 after being referred from another SBDC client. Montoya was looking to expand her business from a one chair salon to a six chair salon. She met with SBDC Consultant, Candace Pruett to discuss her business plan, financial projections, and plans for expansion. The SBDC assisted with the development of the business plan, market research, loan options, and even marketing strategies to expand the business such as registering the business on Google and obtaining a website for the business.

Since Textures has started working with the SBDC, the business has expanded into a store-front location in Odenton. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Friday May 18^th at 9:30am with the local community attending including the Central Maryland Chamber of Commerce, Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation, and the Small Business Development Center.
