April 10, 2024

WBAL Newsradio reported on Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller and Special Secretary Maria Martinez, Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman, and Anne Arundel County Councilmember Allison Pickard visiting a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Business Recovery Center (BRC) in Anne Arundel County in the following story:

Maryland officials visit recovery center in wake of Key Bridge collapse

The visit, and the coverage of it, came following the publication of a press release from Governor Wes Moore, Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman, and the Small Business Administration (SBA) announcing that the BRC’s opening would be opening to support businesses and workers impacted by the Key Bridge collapse and Port of Baltimore closure.

The story included details on the BRC, located at Arundel Christian Church in Glen Burnie, and the services offered there by SBA Customer Service Representatives and representatives from federal, state and county agencies.

It also included commentary from Governor Aruna Miller, who said, “It’s great energy here. This is what happens when people come together in partnership with love, compassion and unity. This is how we’re going to get through this.”

It also included commentary from County Executive Pittman, who said, “Our agencies have really come together with SBA to support the businesses. It’s all here in one place and it’s really important, and we encourage people to come find out what services exist.”

Maryland Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller and Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman made a visit to one of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Business Recovery Centers in the wake of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse.

Both Miller and Pittman greeted staff at the SBA site at the Arundel Christian Church in Glen Burnie. It is one of three regional centers that are helping to assist business owners impacted by the Port of Baltimore closure.

“It’s great energy here. This is what happens when people come together in partnership with love, compassion and unity,” Miller said. “This is how we’re going to get through this.”

Businesses are eligible for low-interest loans of up to $2 million until the end of 2024. Owners would need to visit the centers and complete a Disaster Loan application.

Pittman encouraged those affected by the bridge collapse to come by the SBA center and take a look at the resources being offered.

“Our agencies have really come together with SBA to support the businesses,” Pittman said. “It’s all here in one place and it’s really important, and we encourage people to come find out what services exist.”
