WBFF & Anne Arundel Patch Report on SBA Business Recovery Center Opening in Anne Arundel County To Support Businesses Impacted by Key Bridge Collapse

April 9, 2024

WBFF (Fox News Baltimore) and Anne Arundel Patch reported on the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) opening a Business Recovery Center (BRC) in Anne Arundel County, at Arundel Christian Church in Glen Burnie, on April 8, 2024 to support businesses and workers impacted by the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse.

The coverage came following the publication of an April 9 press release from Governor Wes Moore, Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman, and the Small Business Administration (SBA) announcing the BRC’s opening.

Both outlets reported that the Business Recovery Center will be staffed by SBA Customer Service Representatives who will be available to assist business owners in completing disaster loan applications, accept documents for existing applications, and provide the status of loan applications.

They also noted that representatives from the US Department of Labor, Maryland Insurance Administration, Anne Arundel County Crisis Response Team, Anne Arundel County Office of Emergency Management, Arundel Workforce Development Corporation, Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation, Anne Arundel Community Development Services, and Department of Social Services will be on-site to connect businesses, workers, and residents with vital information and services as well.

Both articles featured the following commentary from Governor Moore:

“Maryland Business Resource Centers have been an invaluable asset to our community in the wake of the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The new Glen Burnie location will help small business owners connect with specialists to apply for SBA disaster loans for up to $2 million to help overcome any temporary loss of revenue stemming from the bridge collapse. The Biden-Harris administration has been an incredible partner, and we’re grateful to SBA Administrator Guzman for helping open new locations to serve Marylanders as we respond to the economic disruptions caused by this tragedy.”

And the following commentary from County Executive Pittman:

“I have heard first-hand the challenges businesses are facing as a result of the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. We will continue to work with our state and federal partners to provide them with all the necessary support they need during this difficult time.”
