Farm Equipment Rental Program

Farm Equipment Rental Program Overview

The Farm Equipment Rental Program supports current and aspiring farmers by providing access to a wide variety of farm equipment (including a mobile poultry processing unit) at reasonable rental rates.

Designed to reduce startup and operational costs while supporting diverse farming needs and conservation practices, the program is funded through the Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission (SMADC) with in-kind support from T&C Farm Services. Eligible participants complete a rental application, schedule equipment pickup upon approval, and submit a brief post-rental report to help ensure continued program success.

Program Eligibility

Residents who own or operate a farm in Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Prince George’s, or St. Mary’s County that is agriculturally tax assessed by the State of Maryland are eligible to apply.

Rental Process

Step 1: Complete the appropriate rental application.
Please note: To rent equipment, you will need to provide a certificate of liability insurance for a minimum of $1 million that lists:

  • AAEDC and Sarah Campbell as additional insured for MPU
  • AAEDC and Tom Collinson as additional insured for all other equipment

You will need to complete a separate application for each piece of equipment.

Step 2: Look out for an email from AAEDC letting you know if your application has been approved or denied.

Step 3: If you are approved, use the contact information included in the email to contact Sarah Campbell (MPU) or Tom Collinson (all other equipment) to schedule a day and time to pick up your equipment.

Please note: You will need to provide your approval email to Sarah or Tom when picking up the equipment to verify your eligibility.

Step 4: Once you have completed your rental, click on the “view form” link in your approval email and complete a post-rental report.

Please note: Failure to complete this report will prohibit you from future equipment rental.

FAQs

How much does each piece of equipment cost?

All prices are subject to change, but most pieces of equipment are priced at a daily rate ranging from $10/day to $125/day. Three pieces of equipment are priced based on their actual usage – for example, how many bales are baled or how much tape or plastic is used. You will be able to see the current rental rates when you access the application.

What if it rains during my rental period?

Once the equipment has been picked up, renters will be charged for every day the equipment was rented for, rain or shine. However, if the equipment has not been picked up yet renters can reschedule their pickup for the next available date.

What if the equipment needs repair?

If equipment repairs are made necessary during the lease period (beyond normal wear and tear):

  • Under no circumstances should renters attempt to repair any equipment.
  • T&C Farm Service is solely responsible for all repair work on all equipment.
  • The renter is solely responsible for the total repair cost, including parts and labor.
